Health Minister makes first visit to health facilities on the islands of Brava and Fogo
Today, the Minister of Health, Jorge Figueiredo, begins a four-day visit to the Fogo/Brava Health Region, as part of the strategy of proximity management adopted by the government since he took office.
The aim of Jorge Figueiredo's first visit as Minister of Health is to get to know, on the ground, the reality of the health system in the Fogo/Brava Health Region.
The Minister of Health, according to a press release, will be visiting various health facilities, including the Monteiros and São Filipe health precincts, as well as the Santa Catarina Health Center, on the island of Fogo.
It is also planned to visit the recently opened Nossa Senhora da Encarnação Palliative Care Center and the São Francisco de Assis Regional Hospital, as well as meetings with representatives from private clinics and local mayors.
On the island of Brava, the agenda includes a visit to the mayor, the inauguration of the new adolescent health room, visits to local health infrastructures and meetings with professionals in the sector.
The visit aims to strengthen the link between the local health services and the central services, assess the working conditions of professionals and gauge the quality of care provided to the population.
The minister also highlights the importance of direct contact with workers as a way of better understanding the main challenges faced and responding with concrete and effective measures.
Today, Jorge Figueiredo is prioritizing a visit to the Mosteiros Health Precinct and Cova Figueira Health Centre (Santa Catarina) with a meeting with the professionals, a visit to the basic health units and a meeting with the Mosteiros mayor.
On Thursday 19th, Jorge Figueiredo will visit the health structures in the municipality of São Filipe, such as the police station, palliative care center, basic health units and health posts.
He will also hold meetings with the mayor, health professionals and the Leader team to present the Swot analysis, before going to the municipality of Santa Catarina where he has scheduled visits and meetings with professionals and the local mayor.
On Friday the 20th, the last day of his visit to the island of Fogo, Jorge Figueiredo will be at the São Francisco de Assis Regional Hospital where separate meetings are planned with the board of directors and health professionals.
He will visit some private clinics in the health sector on the same day and on Saturday, the 21st, he will go to the neighboring island of Brava,
This trip to the islands of Brava and Fogo is another stage in the national tour initiated by the governor, demonstrating the Ministry of Health's commitment to participatory management, centered on active listening and the continuous improvement of the Cape Verdean health system.
