Kindergarten at Escola Materna in Nossa Senhora without its playground
City of Nova Sintra, October 16, 2023 - The Escola Materna Children's Garden, located in the community of Nossa Senhora do Monte, faces growing concern, as children do not have access to a playground since the old park was deactivated due to to maintenance problems. The equipment, which once provided fun and development for children, was rusty and unusable and was torn up and thrown away.
The playground used to be a point of attraction in the children's garden, providing a safe space for children to play and explore their creativity. However, constant exposure to the elements and lack of proper maintenance resulted in materials deteriorating, making the park unsafe for use and ending up in the trash.
The school community, together with parents and guardians, expressed concern about the situation, emphasizing the importance of a playground in the training and development of children. Many highlighted that the park provided valuable opportunities for physical exercise, social interaction and learning through play.
The director of Escola Materna recognized the importance of the playground and expressed her desire to find a solution to restore the recreational space. She stated: "We are aware of the need for a suitable playground for our children. We are working together with parents, teachers and community members to pressure the authorities to build a new space, vital to the development of our children."
It is hoped that, with the collaboration of everyone involved, children at Escola Materna in Nossa Senhora will soon be able to enjoy a safe and enriching playground.
While discussions continue, the hope is that the construction of a new playground will become a reality, providing children at the Mother School with a space where they can play, learn and grow in a stimulating and safe environment.
