Due to the latest episodes about the lack of maritime transport to the island, a recurring fact that has been affecting people's lives, the emigrants' holiday schedules, the visit of tourists and more extreme cases such as the postponement of consultations, the issue of feeling of isolation and encroachment on the island of Brava.

Ilha Brava is considered one of the most isolated islands in Cape Verde due to its remote location and the lack of transport infrastructure that connects it with the other islands in the archipelago.

In fact, the island can only be accessed by boat, as the Francisco Feijoo Barbosa airport has had no flights since 1999. The airport on Ilha Brava, relatively small, only received flights from the TACV Twin Otters.

The Mayor, who has played an active role in defending this issue of the maritime connection with the island, once again showed that he was tired of the situation, claiming that the development would be completely amputated if transport between Brava and other islands did not get resolved.

“As mayor and citizen of Brava at the moment, I am completely disgusted with this situation and again I ask the Government and the Minister of the Sea to do something because this situation cannot continue like this”, declared Francisco Tavares.

Faced with this situation, the mayor of Brava stressed that “an island cannot even dream of development” with this situation of one or two weekly trips and with this “great unpredictability, causing inconvenience in all respects” and for everyone who want to come or need to leave Brava for the other islands.

If for some the fact that it is isolated attracts tourists looking for a quiet place to recharge their batteries, for residents this becomes a reason not to believe in a promising future for Brava.

The island has a preserved natural environment, a climate of tranquility and serenity, enough ingredients to attract people, if the maritime connection is safe, regular and efficient. Furthermore, the island is known for its rich culture and historical heritage, which makes it a popular destination for those wishing to explore Cape Verde's history and culture.
