The traditional São João 2025 Football Tournament kicked off on June 8 at the mythical Aquiles de Oliveira Stadium, with two vibrant matches marking the official start of the island's June festivities. The stands were filled with emotion, nostalgia and a lot of passion for local soccer.
Opening the afternoon's sport, the first match pitted the Old Glories of Our Lady of Monte and Nova Sintra. Despite the age weighing on their legs, their talent and commitment remain alive. The game ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw, full of nostalgic moments and quality moves. Toy di Iva shone for Nossa Senhora do Monte with a great goal and an inspired display, while for Nova Sintra, Deu also scored a brace, showing that he still has plenty of his nose for goal.
In the second match of the day, it was the turn of the mixed senior teams from Nossa Senhora do Monte and Nova Sintra to take to the field.
