São João Baptista/Brava: Sports activities involve around 400 athletes in various sports

The sporting activities alluding to the celebrations of São João Baptista and the Day of the Municipality of Brava, marked on the 24th of June, began this Wednesday, and have 400 athletes in various sports.

Speaking to Inforpress, the person in charge of sports at the Municipality of Brava, Mário Soares, explained that for the organization and implementation of these activities, a commission was created, where athletes and teams registered to participate in the competitions.

This Wednesday, indoor sports began, namely basketball and futsal, but he informed that there are still other sports such as handball, 11-a-side football, athletics, cycling, teqball, swimming, aerobics, kick boxing, among others.

For this edition, he announced that the hall modalities are being disputed in a decentralized way, with activities taking place in Nova Sintra, Nossa Senhora do Monte and Furna.

In the futsal modality, he highlighted that 27 teams are registered, between male and female seniors and veterans.

For 11-a-side football, he underlined that four teams will participate, three from Brava and another from Fogo Island, and in terms of athletics there will be men's, women's, youth and veterans' competitions.

As for the cycling and athletics events, he showed that they are anticipating the arrival of a dozen more athletes from other municipalities.

Mário Soares announced that the end is scheduled for the 23rd of June, with the act of handing over the trophies.

As for decentralization, he explained that São João Baptista is celebrated in Nova Sintra, but it is an island festival, and that everyone is always engaged, thus justifying the need to take some activities to areas where people often, at these times, unable to travel to Nova Sintra, mainly due to transport issues, but that the final races will be held in Nova Sintra.

As sports manager of the municipality, he took the opportunity for his role and on behalf of the people of Brave to congratulate the Morabeza team for their performance in the national championship, and to wish them success in the game of the final quarters of the Cape Verde Cup that is being disputed today against the team from Barreirense.

Likewise, he took the opportunity to reinforce the availability of the municipality to support the team, underlining that they are attentive to the performance that it has been doing on behalf of the island.
