Dona Nair, mother of the President of the Republic, dies at the age of 99
The Presidency of the Republic announced today, with "deep regret", the death of Alda Pereira Neves "Dona Nair", mother of the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, on Saturday, at the age of 99.

In a statement, the presidency highlighted the "legacy of love and dedication" left by Dona Nair, which will live on through her children: Felisberta Pereira Neves Tavares, António Pereira Neves, Maria José Pereira Neves and José Maria Pereira Neves.
The note also stresses that his memory will be honored by his 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Dona Nair's funeral is scheduled for this Sunday in the town of Assomada. The religious ceremony will begin at 15:00 in the Church of Nossa Senhora de Fátima.
The funeral procession will leave from Dona Nair's home in Pedra Barro, with burial scheduled for 16:00 in Nhagar Cemetery.
In this moment of pain and mourning, the Presidency of the Republic expresses to the bereaved family "the deepest feelings of solidarity and respect", associating itself with the suffering of the President of the Republic and all the family and friends who share this "irreparable loss".
