Cape Verde needs politicians who put the public interest above their differences

We live in a time when politics dominates much of the discussion in our society. Every citizen has their own opinions, preferences, and way of evaluating those who bear responsibility for steering the course of the country and our islands. Differences of opinion are part of democracy and must be respected.

But, above and beyond political and partisan differences, there is something that should be common to everyone: a commitment to the public interest.

For me, the issue is simple. Whoever is in power must strive, to the best of their ability, to carry out their duties with honesty, responsibility, and dedication, always seeking to do the best possible for the people they represent.

Cape Verde is a small country, but one with enormous talent. We have people with knowledge, skills, experience, and a willingness to contribute to the development of our communities. What we need is to create the conditions so that these talents can be put to work for the country, regardless of their political preferences.

It is time to roll up our sleeves and work together.

We cannot forget those who need our attention the most. The elderly, the poorest families, the most vulnerable, and all those who, for various reasons, face difficulties must be at the center of our concerns.

It is 2026. The country faces challenges that require less division and more capacity for dialogue, cooperation, and hard work. Politics should not be viewed merely as a struggle for power, but also as a responsibility toward our communities and future generations.

We may disagree on paths, strategies, and priorities. We may support different parties and have different visions for the future of Cape Verde. But that should not prevent us from recognizing that there are causes that transcend our differences.

Our island needs people who are willing to work, to listen, and to seek solutions. It needs committed leaders, but also engaged citizens who are willing to contribute.

This, in essence, is the message I would like to leave you with at this moment: regardless of who is in power, we must demand honesty, accountability, and dedication to public service. And, as citizens, we also have a duty to do our part.

It is time for us to work together for the good of our communities and of Cape Verde.

Moisés, my brother, stay focused and keep moving forward on your path. I’m proud of the work you’re doing and the way you’ve sought to give our community a voice.

Brava News, always strong!
