Zé Luís Solidário Project receives exemption from Atlantic Shipping for sending donations from the US to Cape Verde
Pawtucket, August 8, 2025 – The Zé Luís Solidário Project, known for its philanthropic work benefiting the most vulnerable communities in Cape Verde, has just secured another important logistical grant. In partnership with the Government of Cape Verde, Atlantic Shipping has granted a full exemption on the transportation of a 40-foot container, allowing donations to be sent free of charge from the United States.

The measure represents a significant boost for the project, which for years has mobilized the Cape Verdean diaspora to collect essential goods – including food, clothing, school supplies, and medical equipment – for vulnerable families on the islands.
According to project leader José Luís Martins, the exemption represents not only a considerable cost savings but also a moral boost to continue volunteering and solidarity work. "This support from Atlantic Shipping, with the institutional backing of the Cape Verdean government, shows that when civil society, businesses, and authorities come together, it's possible to make a difference in the lives of many," stated José Luís.
Atlantic Shipping, which has served the Cape Verdean diaspora community for decades, reinforces its social commitment with this initiative, supporting initiatives aimed at the development and well-being of communities in Cape Verde.
The container, which will be shipped soon, carries a wide range of donations collected from the immigrant community in the United States, destined for various locations on the islands, where they will be distributed with the support of local partners.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Zé Luís urges anyone who has hospital supplies, diapers, masks, gloves, walkers, etc., to inform him so he can fill the container to be sent to Cape Verde.
