The arrival of around three thousand bags of cement eases shortages after almost two months
The company that distributes cement on the island of Brava, Dina Vicente, received around 3,000 bags of cement today, which are being sold on a limited basis to buyers, Inforpress found out on site.
The island was almost two months without cement, a situation that ended up paralyzing several construction projects in the municipality.
This Tuesday, in front of the distribution company in Nova Sintra, Inforpress saw several contractors and construction workers waiting for their turn to buy the product and resume work which, they say, has been paralyzed for almost two months due to a shortage of the material.
According to some contractors present, each buyer will be able to purchase between 15 and 20 bags, in an attempt to allow more people to have access to the product.
In statements to Inforpress, young Álvaro Coelho, who has an ongoing construction project at his home, lamented the situation faced by the municipality due to the lack of cement, stating that his construction has been at a standstill for months.
"In this situation, it's slowing down the island, since several heads of families are unable to work because of this situation. Today we have information that around three thousand bags of cement have arrived and the product will be distributed so that everyone can buy some," he said.
However, the same source considered that the quantity received is insufficient to meet the existing demand on the island, calling for a more lasting solution to support the construction sector, the economy and the development of Brava.
For his part, the contractor José Maria Delgado shares the same concern and considers that the lack of cement for two months on the island has negative consequences for many families.
"When cement is missing on the island for two months, it's complicated, since this represents a loss for several heads of household. What's more, the contractors can't meet the deadlines for delivering the work," he said.
The contractor also explained that he has already withdrawn his number and is waiting to try to buy some bags.
"The cement has already arrived on the island, I've taken my number and I'm waiting to get some bags. They've said they're going to sell a certain amount to each person, so I'm hoping to get some," he added.
However, according to those present, the company continues to unload the product, while dozens of people wait at the site hoping to buy cement to continue their work.
