In statements to the media, user António Lopes said that the situation is becoming "lamentable" in the municipality.

He told journalists that his brother had suffered an accident on the beach and that when he arrived at the hospital to receive proper medical treatment he was told that the police station hadn't had an X-ray technician for months.

According to him, they only bandaged his brother who, however, was complaining of severe pain in the area affected by the fall and there was no way he could have the X-ray procedure done at Brava.

"In this case the measure was to go to the island of Fogo so that the patient could receive the best care and have the procedure done to better understand his health situation. The Ministry of Health should pay more attention to health on the island of Brava, because in these circumstances we are going from bad to worse," he said.

Mariazinha Gomes, who is also a user of the town of Nossa Senhora do Monte, questioned why the doctor who used to attend the post at least once a week had been withdrawn.

"If there was a doctor who could visit the town once a week, it would be of great value, because no one would go to the town of Nova Sintra for just one consultation, unless the situation was serious," he said.

Currently, he pointed out that the island has three doctors, which would justify the presence of one of them in this other parish, even once a week.

For her part, Rose Silva, who also lives in the town of Nossa Senhora do Monte and shares the same idea, stressed that the community belongs to another parish and should therefore have at least one "active" health post during the day.

"Any symptoms of pain or injury, we are forced to travel to the city so that we can get care from nurses or doctors, and this of course comes at a high cost because of transportation. It would be good if we had a resident nurse and maybe even a doctor to serve the locality," he said.

Contacted by Inforpress to comment on the matter, the Brava island health delegate, Júlio Barros, said that an x-ray technician would soon be at the hospital carrying out his duties.

However, he guaranteed that as of October 3, the post in the parish of Nossa Senhora do Monte will have a doctor once a week, that is, every Wednesday.

"We used to have a permanent nurse at the post, but he retired and we're waiting for another one to be appointed so that we can put him in his place," he concluded.
