Brava: Parity and gender trainees pledge to support this fight

Community leaders trained in gender parity, in the training that ended Tuesday, promoted by the Organization of Women of Cape Verde (OMCV), committed themselves to making their contribution in this matter in the inserted communities.

This training course, which lasted two days, Monday and Tuesday, received a “positive” rating not only from the trainer, but also from the trainees.

Carlos Aires, one of the participants, said that they learned new things, even though they are concepts that they are used to hearing on a daily basis, but that they had not yet had the opportunity to deepen and understand their true meaning and impact. they cause in society.

With the training, he reinforced that the empirical knowledge they had, turned into a “more in-depth and well-founded” knowledge.

As a citizen and taking into account the content of the debates during the training course, Carlos Alberto argues that the parity law is “something that has been necessary for some time now”.

He added that he will start to do his part, sharing the knowledge acquired in the training with the other associations that he is part of and the community of Brave.

Another trainee, Verónica Gomes, added that it is the first training of its kind that she has participated in and this experience was “great”.

She said that she had acquired a lot of information, with a certain foundation, which made her feel more prepared to raise awareness and transmit some information about the matter to other women and the community in which she is inserted.

On the part of the trainer Carla Santos, the balance is “positive”, considering the training action as being “very productive, with a lot of participation and sharing”.

According to her, in addition to bringing new information and the training program, she was able to analyze the level of leaders in terms of parity and gender.

In addition to teaching, he added that he collected subsidies that will be "important" in the process, explaining that now, OMCV already knows the needs of the island, what it can do to support community leaders or communities in Brave in the struggle to achieve parity in the gender.

She commented that during these two days, what captivated her was the “demonstrated interest” on the part of men, because, she said, that even men have already recognized the balance and that women should be given the same opportunities.

With the contributions, he emphasized that they will work together with the Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG) and other partners, to bring other forms of dynamism, be it training in other areas, training for other young people, not just leaders, it could be for education at the level of teachers and other institutions, as a way of giving continuity.
