Clóvis Silva, Brava candidate or Francisco Carvalho's choice? Militants question the nomination process

While Clóvis Silva's name has been announced as the choice to lead the party's list on the Brava, some activists and political observers are raising doubts about the way the process has been carried out, especially with regard to compliance with the procedures laid down in the PAICV's statutes.

According to the party's statutes, the Regional Political Commissions (CPR) play an important role in preparing and proposing lists of candidates for deputies in the respective constituencies, including the nomination of the head of the list. However, according to information circulating among activists, the choice of Clóvis Silva was not formally proposed by the Brava Regional Political Commission, which is causing criticism and questions.

Some activists argue that the absence of a formal proposal from the regional structure weakens the principle of internal participation and local representation in the process of choosing candidates. For these party members, the CPR should have been called upon to play a more active role, ensuring that the decision reflected the will of the island's political base.

Faced with this scenario, a question arises that has been repeated in different political circles and on social media: will Clóvis Silva really be the candidate for Brava or the choice of the party's national leader?

The question gains even more prominence because it involves the president of the PAICV, Francisco Carvalho, to whom some activists attribute direct influence in defining the name that will lead the list in the island's constituency.

Despite the criticism and doubts raised, there are also voices within the party that defend the choice of Clóvis Silva, highlighting his political experience, his work as a member of parliament and his knowledge of the challenges facing the island.

However, the PAICV's national leadership has not yet publicly clarified whether the process followed all the steps laid out in the statutes or whether there was an alternative internal mechanism to justify the choice.

At a time when the party is preparing to face the legislative elections, the debate around the candidacy in Brava reveals internal tensions and different readings on the functioning of the party's internal democracy, as well as on the role of regional structures in defining electoral leaderships.

For many activists, the central question remains: does the candidacy represent the political will of Brava or is it the result of a decision taken outside the island? The answer to this question could influence not only the party's internal environment, but also the way the local electorate views the political process leading up to the next legislative elections.
