And this behavior becomes even more serious when it comes from those who have held high positions in our institutions.

The Brava Municipal Assembly (2020-2024) had a noble mission on its hands: to supervise the executive, strengthen democratic debate and defend the interests of the people of Brava.

However, during its mandate, the Assembly did not fully fulfill this role. There was a lack of firmness where there should have been a pulse, a lack of voice where silence was not an option and a lack of leadership where the people expected institutional responsibility. It was a time marked by omissions, passivity and a lack of political courage.

The scenarios we have seen in recent days are not what they used to be.

Today, we see a political figure going public to respond to comments and trying to construct narratives, comparing mistakes made between 2000 and 2012 by the mayoral teams of that period, in an attempt to relativize present failures. This strategy does not enrich the political debate; on the contrary, it demonstrates a lack of solid arguments and an inability to face the current reality. Past mistakes cannot serve as an excuse for present omissions.

Moreover, this speech comes in a context in which another former president is facing legal proceedings, which deepens the feeling of a job not done. Justice exists to determine facts and responsibilities.

Faced with this reality, the least that is expected from those who have led democratic institutions is prudence, respect for the rule of law and a commitment to the truth. This is no time for inflammatory rhetoric or attempts to divert attention from what is essential - the present, today.

Political maturity is measured by the ability to recognize mistakes, learn from the past and govern responsibly in the present. Mixing up different eras, ignoring current demands for transparency, good governance and citizen participation is a sign of political exhaustion and a lack of vision for the future.

It must be made clear: this is 2026. A time that demands strong institutions, responsible leadership, respect for the law and a policy focused on concrete solutions to the real problems of the people of Brava.

The future of the island is not built with defensive rhetoric, but with political courage, democratic maturity and a serious commitment to the development and dignity of the people of Brava.

The minimum that Brava demands - regardless of who is in power now or who will be in the near future - is equality, employment and better living conditions for the entire population.
