PAICV CPR militants in Brava express annoyance at National Political Commission's decision on list head

According to information that has reached the Bravanews newsroom, the decision announced at national level does not correspond to the proposal that had been formally deliberated by the party's regional bodies in Brava.

In a message sent to Bravanews, the president of the Regional Political Commission clarified that the island's CPR met and took a clear and unanimous position on the name that should lead the party's list in the Brava constituency.

"The CPR voted unanimously for Carlinhos Martins to be the head of the list and Clóvis wasn't even discussed or voted for by the CPR," said the official."

The statement reveals that, in the opinion of the regional structure, the proposal sent to the party's national leadership clearly indicated Carlinhos Martins as the consensual choice of the members of the Regional Political Commission.

The situation has generated some discomfort among PAICV activists and local leaders in Brava, who question the criteria used by the National Political Commission for the final choice of the head of the list.

According to internal party sources on the island, many militants believe that the PAICV's Statutes give the Regional Political Commissions an important role in the process of nominating candidates, especially with regard to preparing and proposing lists in the respective constituencies.

In this sense, some members believe that the regional proposal should have been given greater weight in the final decision taken by the party's national bodies.

The episode once again brings to internal debate in the PAICV the way in which lists of candidates for deputies are drawn up, particularly the balance between the proposals of the regional structures and the decisions taken by the national bodies.

While the party's statutes state that the final approval of the lists rests with the national bodies, several activists argue that the proposals presented by the Regional Political Commissions should be respected or at least considered in a more binding way.

In Brava, where the political dynamic is traditionally marked by the strong involvement of militants in party decisions, the issue is generating discussions within the local structures.

In view of this scenario, some activists are now waiting for possible clarifications from the PAICV's national leadership on the criteria that led to the final choice of list head for the Brava constituency.

Meanwhile, the issue continues to fuel debate behind the scenes in local politics, at a time when the party is preparing for the legislative elections on May 17, 2026, which are considered decisive for the political future of the country and also for the representation of the island of Brava in the National Assembly.
