Nilza Varela Foundation, a beacon of hope in Cape Verde and in transforming lives Transformar Vidas
Brockton City, November 1, 2025 (Bravanews) - The Nilza Varela Foundation, a US-based non-profit organization founded by António Varela, is rewriting the history of families in Cape Verde by providing them with the essentials for a dignified life: safe housing, food and medical support. Created with the central aim of alleviating extreme poverty on the islands, the Foundation has been demonstrating that global solidarity can indeed transform lives.
In just two and a half years, the Nilza Varela Foundation has celebrated an impressive milestone, raising more than 208,000 dollars thanks to the generosity of donors from all over the world. The organization guarantees that every cent of this amount has been applied directly on the ground: in the construction of safe homes, the provision of essential health care and the continuous distribution of food and basic goods to the families that need it most.
In a statement to Bravanews, Varela said that "the mission is clear: to restore hope and dignity to those who live in conditions of extreme need. Seeing families who previously lived in tents or makeshift shelters receive the keys to a safe and permanent home is the greatest reward and proof of the impact of our community of donors."
Recently, the Nilza Varela Foundation team went to the island of Sal with the strategic aim of expanding and promoting its mission to the millions of tourists who visit Cape Verde every year. The initiative aims not only to raise awareness about the reality of poverty in the archipelago, but also to inspire an even wider range of people to join this humanitarian cause. The presence in Sal serves as a powerful catalyst to garner new support and global partners.
The Foundation's work is far from over. The organization is already planning the next major phase of expansion to the island of São Vicente, a community severely hit by the recent storms. The immediate focus will be on rebuilding homes and supporting the rehabilitation of the most affected communities, a crucial effort to restore stability and hope to devastated families.
To guarantee the complete confidence of its donors, the Nilza Varela Foundation is strengthening its status as a registered charity in the United States. Based in the state of Massachusetts, it is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) entity. This recognition means that all donations are tax-deductible in the US, where there is total transparency and accountability in the application of funds, which go directly to aid projects in Cape Verde.
The Foundation invites the public to follow its impact closely via social media, under the name @NobodyCaresAnthony. On these platforms, which include:
