Legislative elections 2026: PAICV parliamentary leader proposes dialog to avoid alienating militants

Clóvis Silva was approached by journalists to comment on a letter sent to the party's president by party activists living in the United States of America, who asked about the choice of list heads for the constituencies of America, Fogo and Sal, among others.

The MP considered that the situation should be viewed as normal, stressing that electoral periods are "quite sensitive" for political parties.

He explained that the decisions were taken by the party president, who is always under "pressure" to manage individual ambitions, legitimate interests and also to respond to the population.

"We have to face these situations with some normality, which weakens the party and weakens the country, because the more normal the candidacy processes are, the better the party will come out, the better the country will come out," he pointed out.

The parliamentary leader also stressed the importance of dialog and listening, as a way of avoiding the alienation of militants.

"What the decision-maker has to do is look for the best options, and I believe that these options have been made, and we have to know how to listen to people, know how to sit down and talk to people, so that these letters don't later turn into alienating people, who are dear to all of us and who must continue to work with us so that we can change the country," he concluded.

The president of the PAICV, Francisco Carvalho, announced on Friday, May 20, the party's list leaders for the legislative elections on May 17.
