In statements to the press, the national campaign director of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID), Anílton Andrade, said that the list represents civil society, because it brings together people from different professional classes, combining experience and youth.

According to the official, the candidacy fully complies with the parity law, being made up of 60 percent (%) women and 40 percent men.

"It's a strong list, with capable people, who we hope will earn the trust of the people of San Vicente. The aim is to be the most voted political force in São Vicente," he said.

According to the leader, UCID is aware that the electorate is "discredited and dispassionate" with the parties that have governed with an absolute majority over the years.

For this reason, he argued that the party is proposing a change to "balance Parliament and better govern the country".

"After 50 years of mere political alternation, each of the two forces that have governed has managed to prove that it is capable of governing worse than the one that was there. It's clear that there's no reason for people to believe in politics," he argued.

Anílton Andrade also said that the party is confident that it can strengthen its parliamentary presence, with the creation of a bench.

In this sense, he indicated that UCID's electoral platform has already been completed and will be distributed to allow voters to consciously choose the deputies they want in parliament.

In the 2021 legislative elections, UCID ran in all constituencies, but managed to increase the number of deputies only in São Vicente, from three to four seats.

Seats for 72 MPs will be up for grabs in the May 17 legislative elections, representing 13 constituencies, ten of which are in Portugal and three abroad.

In the constituencies on national territory, 66 MPs will be in the running, distributed among Santo Antão (6), São Vicente (10), São Nicolau (2), Sal (4), Boa Vista (2), Maio (2), Santiago Sul (19), Santiago Norte (14), Fogo (5) and Brava (2).

Relatively abroad, each of the three constituencies will elect two deputies, representing Africa (2), America (2) and Europe and the Rest of the World (2).

According to the National Electoral Commission (CNE), the number of seats per constituency to be elected remains unchanged from the 2021 legislative elections.

According to the electoral calendar, the deadline for formalizing candidacies in the district courts is today, April 7.
