Rhode Island College hosts a talk with the makers of the documentary "Décima Ilha - Cape Verdean and Portuguese heritages in Rhode Island."

The meeting is scheduled to take place between 10 a.m. and noon, bringing together students, researchers and community members interested in learning more about the history and presence of the Cape Verdean and Portuguese communities in the state of Rhode Island.

During the session, the two filmmakers will share experiences on the process of creating the documentary, as well as discuss the cultural and historical significance of the so-called "Tenth Island", an expression often used to describe the Cape Verdean diaspora, particularly in the United States.

The documentary explores the roots, memories and contributions of the Cape Verdean and Portuguese communities in the region, highlighting stories of migration, identity and cultural preservation over several generations.

The initiative aims to promote academic and cultural dialog around Lusophone heritage in Rhode Island, a state that is home to one of the oldest and most significant Cape Verdean communities in the United States.

Participation is open to the public interested in cinema, history and studies on the Cape Verdean and Portuguese diaspora.
