St. Philip: Brockton delegation arrives Saturday to take part in festivities and strengthen cooperation

The visit, at the invitation of the mayor of São Filipe, is part of the strengthening of twinning relations between the towns of São Filipe and Brockton.

The mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva, highlighted the importance of the presence of the American delegation, which also included several councillors.

During his stay, it is planned not only to consolidate the partnership between the two sister cities, but also a joint visit to the island of Brava, as part of his duties as president of the Association of Municipalities of Fogo and Brava, as well as participation in the meeting with emigrants.

In addition to the delegation from Brockton, São Filipe will welcome, for the first time, and to take part in the festivities of the Day of the Municipality and the Flag, the mayor of Ourém (Portugal), the municipality where the town of Fátima and the Sanctuary of Fátima are located.

The visit aims to strengthen cooperation in areas linked to the Shrine of Our Lady of Socorro, as well as promoting the development of the tourist village of Luzia Nunes, with a focus on transforming wax into artistic and tourist products, as well as strengthening cooperation in the fields of firefighting and civil protection.

Another highlight is the unprecedented presence of the mayor of the Portuguese municipality of Amadora, as well as the participation of Palmela, which will be represented by a councillor, due to the new mayor's institutional commitments.

The program will also be attended by several ambassadors, including that of China, as well as government delegations.

The local authorities are also in contact to ensure the presence of the President of the Republic, at least on the 28th, the date dedicated to emigrants.

On this day, the presence of the mayor of Brockton will be particularly symbolic, allowing formal recognition of the role played by the Cape Verdean diaspora.

"It will be an opportunity to highlight the potential for political, social and economic inclusion of our diaspora, which represents our strength, wealth and hope", stressed Nuías Silva.
