The island of Brava is facing a serious crisis in the supply of food and essential products, due to the paralysis of maritime transportation of goods. According to a report by the Record Dnôs channel, the cargo boats that normally connect Brava to the other islands have been inoperable for days, leaving traders and residents in a worrying situation.

Supermarkets and small stores on the island already have empty shelves. Rice, oil, milk, frozen fish and other basic necessities are in short supply. "We have almost nothing left to sell. We're trying to improvise, but it's very difficult," said a local trader interviewed in the report.

In addition to the scarcity, the few products available are at high prices, due to the additional cost of alternative transportation by land and sea, often done in an improvised and more expensive way.

The population is calling for a rapid response from the authorities. There are calls for the government to intervene with urgent measures, such as sending alternative boats or logistical support to ensure the island is resupplied.

Local authorities are warning of the risk of the situation worsening, especially among the most vulnerable families. "We are worried about the food security of our population," said a community representative.

In a statement published this week, CV Interilhas announced that, as of July 10, 2025, the ship Kriola will return to operation on the Sotavento line, after successfully completing inspections and renewing its seaworthiness certificates. The return of the ferry should ease the critical situation on the Brava, allowing regular transportation of goods and passengers to resume.

The news was greeted with relief by residents and traders, who hope that the arrival of the Kriola will bring in the missing products and stabilize prices in the coming days.
