The drivers, who contacted the press to denounce what they consider a "lack of respect", say that some of them have been waiting more than four years for the definitive document.

Jorge Mendes, one of the drivers affected, reported that since completing his process in 2021, every time he goes to the DGTR the local official informs him that there is a problem with his process, but without giving him a clear explanation.

"They should tell me what the problem is, because there isn't one on my part, because at the time I handed in all the documents and since then I've been waiting for this document and at the moment I'm only working provisionally," he stressed.

According to this driver, the document must be renewed every five years, however he stressed that it will soon be five years since he completed his license and until then he has not received more than a provisional one.

"I don't know what the problem is, but I call on those in charge of the DGTR to look into our case and resolve this problem as quickly as possible, which in my case has been going on for several years," he stressed.

Another driver, Joaquim de Pina, has been waiting for the document for more than seven years. According to him, every time he looks for information, he is told that his file "isn't in the system", even though he has done the procedure and made the payment.

"I paid for the whole process and yet my provisional license has already expired. They say my file isn't in the system, but so far they haven't done anything about it. I'm asking them to help me and all the other drivers in the same situation," he said.

Inforpress contacted the DGTR office on the island of Fogo, which said that it had no knowledge of these specific cases, but admitted that occasionally there are cases that go unresolved, but which have already been resolved.

However, he appealed to drivers who are experiencing this problem to go to the local delegation so that the situation can be identified and resolved.
