Brava: Vitó Project promotes training for fishermen from Lomba Tantum
Within 15 days, Brava Island will have six fishermen trained as “guardians of the sea”, responsible for monitoring and controlling infractions in their respective fishing areas, Inforpress learned today.

The six fishermen, from the Lomba Tantum community, began this Thursday, 26th, a training action called "Guardians of the Sea", financed by the Associação Projecto Vitó.
Speaking to Inforpress, the coordinator of the Sustainable Fishing Program, Deusa Araújo, explained that the course, with a daily workload of four hours, should take place over 15 working days and has a partnership with the Employment and Professional Training Center (CEFP) of the Fogo and Brava Region.
“Different modules will be studied, namely diving techniques, fish conservation, legislation related to fishing, first aid and education”, said the same source.
The project began in 2016 on the island of Maio and, from 2023, was taken to Fogo where it began to be taught in partnership with CEFP.
“40 people have already been trained, 22 from São Filipe and 18 from Mosteiros, and in the near future, it will be taken to the municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo”, he concluded.
