"Brava Unidos" Launches Solidarity Initiative to Support Brava Community
"Brava Unidos" group launched to support health services, vulnerable people and funerals in Brava. Members ask for community support with monthly contributions and invite interested parties to join the cause.

Yesterday a meeting was held in the Brava community in the United States to mark the launch of a new community group: Brava Unidos, with a special focus on the island of Brava. The meeting was attended by respected members of the community, including S. Fátima (now retired), Djodjoy (retired nurse), Vivi (retired school delegate), Maria Indiana (also retired), Totxi (retired shopkeeper), Djodjoy's sister, and Djenga, who led the debate.
The group's main focus is to offer solidarity support to the population of Brava, starting with strengthening hospital services, such as evacuating the sick or injured to the islands of Fogo or Praia. Other priority actions include help for people with physical disabilities or mental problems, as well as support for families in funeral situations.
The group announced that there is already an active team on the island of Brava and that they are working in harmony with the project's founders, Djedje di Anita and Bala, the latter a former mayor of Brava. The aim is to build a solid support network, and to this end they are asking the Brava community in the diaspora to collaborate with a symbolic contribution of just 10 dollars a month.
In addition, the group wants to set up a bank transfer system, and St. Fatima and Maria Indiana have already volunteered to help with this process.
The next meeting will be open to anyone interested, and the organizers invite anyone who wants to be part of the project to get in touch with the members mentioned.
Brava Unidos is an example of how the unity and solidarity of the diaspora can have a direct and positive impact on the lives of communities in Cape Verde.
