Internal report points to the disappearance of a drone and a Laptop purchased by the Brava City Council in the 2020/2024 administration
Nova Sintra City, December 7, 2025 (Bravanews) - The internal investigation report into the management of Brava City Council between 2020 and 2024, led by then mayor Francisco Tavares, reveals evidence of the disappearance of equipment purchased with public funds, namely a drone and a laptop computer. According to the document, both pieces of equipment were bought during his term in office, but have not been found on the council's premises.
According to the report, the drone was purchased for 45,000$00 and paid for by check no. 35458236, issued on April 29, 2022. The laptop, worth 70,000$00, was paid for by check no. 36191763, dated November 16, 2023. Despite being listed as assets belonging to the municipality, the two pieces of equipment were not located during the inventory carried out by the investigation team.
The absence of the materials has raised suspicions about their current location. The report indicates that, in practice, everything points to both being in the possession of the former mayor of Brava. This hypothesis is reinforced by testimonies collected by Bravanews, who confirm that they saw the former mayor using the drone on occasions after it was acquired and after he left the municipal administration.
Contacted by our newsroom to clarify whether or not he has the equipment in his possession, Francisco Tavares had not replied to the messages sent by the time this edition closed. The lack of response leaves open the doubts raised by the report, which recommends following up the case for possible administrative and, if necessary, judicial accountability.
The disappearance of public goods is one of several sensitive points identified in the document, which analyzes municipal management between 2020 and 2024 and points to potential irregularities of various kinds. The internal investigation was concluded on September 16, 2025 and will now be sent to the competent authorities for evaluation.
In the Bravense community, the case is already generating concern and criticism. For many residents, the episode reinforces the need for stricter audits and greater transparency in the management of the island's resources, especially in a context where Brava has been facing structural and financial challenges for several years.
Bravanews will continue to follow the development of this process and seek answers as to the whereabouts of the equipment purchased with municipal funds.
