Prime Minister visits Brava, announces structuring projects, reinforces investments and highlights sustainability and territorial cohesion
City, February 2, 2026 (Bravanews) - The visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic to the island of Brava was marked by far-reaching announcements, the signing of agreements with the City Council and close monitoring of various structural works in progress, confirming the government's strong commitment to the sustainable and integrated development of the island.
At the start of his visit, the Head of Government went to the Lomba fishing area, where he assessed the reconstruction work on the cable car linking the beach to the town. According to him, this is a deep and structuring intervention, going far beyond a simple repair.
"I began my visit to the Lomba fishing area with an assessment of the cable car reconstruction work. This intervention is not a simple repair, but a fundamental requalification, designed to be sustainable and durable", he stressed.
The Prime Minister also said that the government expects the cable car to be back in operation in February, once the technical work underway has been completed, including the import of specific cables. "This is essential equipment to support the daily work of fishermen and fishmongers, improving their conditions and the safety of the activity," he said, highlighting the social and economic impact of this infrastructure for the local community.
Also within the framework of structural investments, the Governor highlighted the Executive's strong commitment to Brava's energy transition. According to the information provided, more than 450,000 escudos are being invested in solar parks, photovoltaic plants and storage batteries. These investments will enable the island to achieve 70% or more of its electricity production from solar energy, a figure higher than the national average.
"These investments strengthen the island's energy sustainability, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and position Brava as a national benchmark in energy transition and climate action," he said.
In the road infrastructure sector, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the construction of the Esparadinha-Palhal road, an investment worth around 266 thousand escudos. As he explained, this work represents a safer alternative to the current Fajã road, significantly reducing the risk of landslides and improving internal mobility.
"The construction of the Esparadinha-Palhal road is a work of great impact for Brava. This link opens up new development opportunities for Palhal, an area with strong tourist potential, and creates the conditions to attract investment, generate employment and reverse the loss of population," he said, adding that, despite the logistical complexity, the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
During the visit, the government also signed several cooperation agreements with the Brava City Council, formalizing partnerships that guarantee new investments in areas considered a priority. Among the projects announced are the Furna-Edam access road, urban improvements in the areas of Cutelo, Ribeira Nha Tana and Pedra Bica, in Nova Sintra, as well as social housing projects aimed at supporting families in situations of greater vulnerability.
In Nova Sintra, the Prime Minister accompanied several structural interventions, including visits to the Shopping Center and Interpretive Center, the rehabilitation works on Rua Direita, the former Nossa Senhora do Monte School, as well as the parish's access and accessibility routes. The agenda also included monitoring the tourist and environmental development works in the rural villages of Fajã d'Água.
According to the Head of Government, these interventions, associated with the regular Fogo-Brava maritime connection, are creating concrete conditions for strengthening the local economy, improving quality of life and projecting a new development dynamic for the island.
"These actions strengthen the local economy, improve the quality of life and project a Brava with more ambition, confidence and a future," he concluded.
As part of the government visit, the Prime Minister presented a series of structuring projects that are underway or already secured for the island of Brava, which are considered crucial for its development:
