Problems with the arrival of fuel on the island of Brava lead gas stations to rationalize diesel supplies
Nova Sintra City, December 9, 2025 (Bravanews) - Ilha Brava, is facing a multiple crisis scenario that is testing the resilience of its inhabitants. After facing chronic problems in water supply, energy supply and dealing with public health issues that seem eternally unresolved, the island is now faced with fuel shortages, forcing the population into a new daily struggle.
In recent days, the situation at gas stations has reached a critical point. Long queues of vehicles have been the most visible image of the crisis, with drivers anxiously awaiting the chance to fill up their tanks before the reserves run out completely.
"We're living on the edge. It's no longer just the water or the illness, now it's about going to work or going about normal life. Every day is an uncertainty," said one of the drivers in the queue.
The central problem lies in the difficulty of fuel reaching the island. Supply has been drastically rationalized, with local operators trying to manage the remaining stock by imposing limits on the amount each vehicle can fill up, so that what little is available can yield as much as possible and give priority to essential services.
The interruption or extreme rationalization of fuel supplies has a devastating domino effect on an already fragile island economy. It affects the transportation of essential goods, the operation of generators in hospitals and other critical infrastructure, and paralyzes the island's economic activities.
The local authorities and the entities responsible for supply have yet to issue a detailed official communication on the deadline for resolving this logistical problem, generating growing concern and frustration among the population, who feel abandoned in the face of these cumulative challenges.
