"The purpose of the evaluation was to revalidate the Last Point of Departure (LPD), an essential requirement for air operations to the United States," said the AAC in a press release.

The status guarantees that airports meet the international safety standards required by the United States.

The status guarantees that the airports comply with the international safety standards required by the United States, allowing direct flights to continue and reinforcing the confidence of passengers and airlines.

The assessment was carried out at the international airports Amílcar Cabral, on the island of Sal, Cape Verde's main tourist island, and Nelson Mandela, in Praia, the country's capital, located on the island of Santiago.

According to the institution, this result "reinforces Cape Verde's international reputation and consolidates the country's image as a safe tourist destination".

The AAC also stressed that there are currently 13 LPDs on the African continent, two of which belong to Cape Verde, highlighting the country's strategic importance in the regional aviation sector.
