Community Drive Launched to Support Youth Soccer in Cabo Verde in Honor of Henry and Rita

Carolina DaLomba, together with Sarita DaRosa and their community team, has launched a grassroots initiative focused on supporting youth soccer programs across Cabo Verde while honoring the legacy of Henry and Rita.

The initiative combines remembrance with practical development goals, aiming to expand access to basic soccer equipment and organized opportunities for children, youth, and women across the islands. Organizers state that Sarita DaRosa continues to play a central leadership role despite personal health challenges and the emotional impact of losing Henry and Rita, whose memory remains the foundation of the project.

The program is currently collecting donations of soccer cleats, balls, jerseys, shorts, athletic socks, and monetary contributions. All items and funds will be distributed to youth soccer programs in Cabo Verde. Organizers emphasize that even small contributions are meaningful, particularly for children who lack access to basic equipment but have the desire to play.

A community fundraising event is scheduled for Saturday, July 11. The event will feature traditional Cape Verdean food including catchupa, along with music, dancing, and cultural gathering. Tickets are priced at $20, with proceeds directed toward the initiative’s youth development programs. Donations and ticket payments are accepted through cash, check, Cash App, Zelle, and Venmo.

Beyond financial and material support, organizers are encouraging community members to share the initiative widely to increase reach and engagement.
