In statements to Inforpress, the Vitó Project's sustainable fishing coordinator, Deusa Araújo, explained that this exhibition features images representative of the local fauna and flora, with a special focus on seabirds, endemic plants and the World Biosphere Reserve on the island of Fogo.

According to the same source, the exhibition is a reflection of the work that the non-governmental organization (NGO) has been carrying out in the region, namely on Ilhéu de Cima and in the Reserva do Ilhéu do Rombo, where species such as rabo-de-junco, pedreira, pedreirinho and pedreira-azul are monitored.

"The exhibition also includes illustrative pictures of the gannet colonies on Brava, as well as various photographs depicting the island in general," she said, stressing that the initiative also reflects the activities carried out in the municipality.

She added that the project has also focused on environmental education, by holding talks in the municipality's schools.

With regard to marine conservation, Deusa Araújo took the opportunity to inform that there is already a proposal launched by the government to create marine protected areas on the island of Brava, as well as to extend the protected area of Ilhéu do Rombo, which is currently an integral reserve of around 300 meters in length.

The coordinator also highlighted the strategic partnership with local fishermen through the "Guardians of the Sea" group, which is responsible for inspecting and monitoring the protected areas, in an ongoing effort to raise awareness.

"We always try to make fishermen aware of the areas where fishing is prohibited", stressed Deusa Araújo, emphasizing the importance of sustainable fishing for the local economy.

With regard to the protection of sea turtles, she assured that the project has maintained a constant presence on the Ilhéu do Rombo between July and October, stressing that the balance of the actions carried out is "very positive".
