The delegate of the Ministry of Education on Brava Island, Orlando Burgo, considered today that the results of the 2019/2020 school year were “extremely positive”, awaiting a “normal situation” for the new school year.

Speaking to Inforpress at the start of the new school year, the delegate from the Ministry of Education said that despite the mishaps due to the covid-19 pandemic, the results obtained both in integrated basic education and in secondary education have improved compared to 2018/ 2019.

According to the same source, in terms of approval, a pass rate of 89.7 percent (%) was recorded in integrated basic education, an increase compared to last year's 3.7 percent.

In failure, there was a rate of 7.2%, a decrease of 0.8%, and school dropout accounted for 3.1%, representing a decrease of 2.9%, compared to the year 2018/2019.

In secondary education, he underlined that the results also suffered improvements, having obtained 69.2% of approval, which represents an increase of 6.2%, while the failure rate was 23.6%, showing a decrease of 3.4% .

The dropout rate was 7.2%, showing a decrease of 2.8%.

For the school year that is now beginning, the official considered that the situation on the island is one of “normalization” in terms of the number of teachers and also in relation to the number of students, stressing that the schools are still open for enrollment, but foresees a decrease of 10 to 15 students.

As he explained, the movement of students and teachers in the municipalities is due to emigration on the island, already considered “normal”, but this year, due to the covid-19 pandemic, he reinforced that few people emigrated, which guarantees a “stabilization” both of students as teachers.
