Ilha Brava, November 8, 2025 - The Mayor of Brava, Amândio Brito, has publicly expressed his recognition and appreciation for the work of the Coast Guard garrison deployed on the vessel stationed on the island, highlighting the crucial role played by these military personnel at a time when Brava is facing a serious maritime transport crisis.

In recent statements, Brito said that, "in this situation of transport disruption, we highlight the commitment and professionalism of this military detachment that has been our salvation". The mayor emphasized that, amid the absence of regular connections with the other islands, the Coast Guard's collaboration has been decisive in responding to emergency situations, including urgent medical evacuations and the travel of official visitors, such as that of the Mayor of Pawtucket, Donald Grebien, who recently had to leave the island of Brava, where he was visiting.

The Mayor of Brava described the performance of the military as "an example of public service and dedication to duty," recognizing the limitations and difficulties with which the detachment works on a daily basis. "Even in inappropriate conditions, they have been tireless, demonstrating an unquestionable commitment to the well-being of our population," said Brito.

However, the mayor did not spare criticism for what he classified as the abandonment and neglect of the island of Brava, which continues to suffer from the lack of regular and safe maritime transportation. "We need to be treated as people and as the human beings that we are," he said, in an outburst that reflected the growing frustration of the Brava population.

In recent days, the island has found itself practically isolated, with shortages of essential products, postponed travel plans and great concern among residents and emigrants. The interruption of maritime services since the beginning of November has caused a series of constraints, affecting commerce, health and even local tourism.

While awaiting a definitive solution to the problem, the gesture of recognition by president Amândio Brito reinforces the importance of cooperation between institutions and the need for urgent action by the central government to guarantee the mobility and dignity of the Bravenses.

"Brava can no longer be forgotten. We are part of Cape Verde and we deserve the same respect and attention as any other island," concluded Brito, calling for national solidarity and concrete measures to return the island to its lost normality.
