"Enough is enough, Brava is also Cape Verde," were some of the slogans that people shouted as they marched on the outskirts of the city this afternoon.
In statements to the media, Eugenia Duarte showed her discontent with Brava's current situation regarding the maritime connection to and from the island, stressing that this is not the first demonstration, but that nothing has ever changed.
Not believing that the crisis in maritime transport is an isolated case, but rather a reflection of a management that needs greater sensitivity, efficiency and commitment to the island, the same source regrets that the voice of the Bravense population is not reaching the ears of those in power or else the Executive is pretending not to see what is happening on this small island.
"How can you claim that our country is independent and that we are developed, if our island is going through all kinds of unfortunate situations. We are here to express our dissatisfaction with health, with the precarious water in this municipality and also with maritime transportation, which has left a lot to be desired lately," he said.
The popular woman pointed out that during these days the municipality is celebrating another anniversary of the municipality and stressed that normally at this time the economy of Brava would be high, however she considered that it is very low, because of the lack of transportation to the island which is uncertain.
"All the migrants who had hotel reservations and tickets are canceling due to the uncertainty of transportation. This situation can't go on like this. We have to shout for the government to pay more attention to our island, because we're fed up with promises and we want solutions because this is already a lack of respect for Brava," he said.
For his part, hotel manager Andy Andrade, who also shares the same opinion, stressed that tourism on the Brava has been practically paralyzed for more than a month and considered that the boat that is operating at the moment is not suitable for commercial activities.
According to the shopkeeper, this month was supposed to be the high point of the island's economy, but due to the lack of connection, activities have practically come to a standstill because people aren't relying on the trips scheduled by CVInterilhas.
"For me the solution was to put the Kriola ship back to sleep in the port of Furna as it used to, making four trips a week to this island, because after other measures were adopted the situation began to deteriorate and we are reaching rock bottom," he concluded.
