Samuel Varela, sole candidate for leadership of the County Political Committee, promises "new times" and united leadership for MpD Brava
Nova Sintra City, October 10, 2025 (Bravanews) - The Movement for Democracy (MpD) in Brava is preparing for a new era of leadership, with Samuel Varela emerging as the sole candidate for the position of President of the Concelhia Political Commission (CPC). The election, scheduled for next Sunday, October 19, at the same time as the selection of the County Political Assemblies throughout the country, should confirm Varela as the party's leader, under the inspiring slogan: "New Times! New Vision! Different and better dynamics for MpD Brava!"

According to the statement sent to Bravanews, Samuel Varela's candidacy is not just a formal act, but an ambitious project based on the premise "Serving the MpD, so that Together We Can Take Care of the Municipality of Brava". Varela says in this statement that after "deep and careful reflection", and driven by the "authentic and genuine encouragement and appeal" of a "very significant number of militants", Varela has decided to move forward with the primary objective of energizing and mobilizing the party for the next electoral cycles, in particular the municipal elections and the 2026 legislative elections.
Varela's Strategic Political Orientation Motion is clear. Brava needs a "strong, determined, well-organized, responsible and charismatic" leadership. The candidate stresses the urgent need to "boost the unity of militants", rebuilding a solid base to transform the council into an "inclusive party where everyone will have a turn and a voice".
Varela, who mentions a path of continuity and "vast political experience" that began in 2013, expresses a calm awareness of the work already done and the responsibility to "dignify and honor the past and present" of the local political structure. His team proposes a "serious, responsible and constructive" political fight against opponents, in line with the guidelines of the last MpD Convention.
The great challenge of this new leadership is to build a "competitive, innovative, participatory and cohesive" party, with active political work focused on social causes and on fulfilling the "dreams and desires of our population", both on the island and in the diaspora.
Samuel Varela's strategy is based on well-defined pillars, with Organization and Internal Functioning taking priority. For Varela, the solidification of the structure is an "essential condition", defending a model that improves internal operations and promotes greater openness to the outside world.
Key points of the Motion for the Internal Structure:
Communication: Expand and reformulate communication channels, actively using new technologies (websites, blogs, social networks) as tools for dialogue and sharing, reaching out to all activists.
Decentralization: Reorganize the party's grassroots and ensure decentralized coordination, creating and boosting hubs in every locality in the county.
Mobilization: Carry out an exhaustive reorganization of the contacts database and promote a broad campaign to attract new activists.
Youth and Women: Set clear priorities for the mobilization of the JpD (Youth for Democracy) and the Democratic Women's Organization, with the aim of catapulting these groups' interest in politics and turning them into the party's "breeding ground".
Finances: Aim for CPC-Brava to be financially self-sufficient, by raising local funds, such as membership fees.
In the field of Political Training, Varela argues that it is "fundamental to know" in order to "choose, decide and defend". The candidate is committed to providing training actions aimed at increasing knowledge of the MpD's history and ideology, promoting "conscious and active" militancy. There will be "talks, debates and gatherings" on issues on the national and local political agenda, bringing the party closer to civil society.
The motion also establishes a stance of "firm, loyal and serene cooperation" with the municipal bodies elected by the MpD, respecting their competencies. The focus is clear: to work "hard to help the MpD win every electoral battle" in the next cycle 2025/2027.
Samuel Varela's candidacy, seen as a project of inclusion and continuity of leadership, promises a "very bold, serious, credible, feasible, mobilizing and above all responsible detailed political project" that will make the new Political Commission the "true spokesperson for the problems, desires and concerns" of the Bravenses.
With the election imminent, the militants of the MpD in Brava are awaiting the formalization of this new leadership that proposes to guide the party for the next three years, under the banner of a renewed and congregating dynamic.
