As a 2018 Mandela Washington Fellow, Lúcia will be traveling to Wagner College, New York, on the civic leadership track. Lúcia is a singer and vocal coach, with a degree in Education and Music from the Universidade Federal do Ceará, in Brazil. In Cabo Verde she coordinated the Music Department of the University of Cabo Verde, founding the “Casa da Musica” cultural and training center. She then went on to create and direct the National Orchestra of Cabo Verde, working for the Ministry of Culture. She has a wide work as a volunteer in communities, schools and prisons, working with children and youth at risk, using music and art to raise awareness.
