The Government has just approved the Resolution that determines the timetable for switching off analogue terrestrial television broadcasts (switch off) throughout the national territory.

Thus, the analog signal will begin to be turned off in August. The transition from the analogue transmission system to the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) system is one of the objectives of the State of Cape Verde, which, like all countries worldwide, by signing the 2006 Geneva Plan (GE06), assumed the international commitment to carry out the switch-off of analogue television, in a process sponsored by the entities with responsibilities in regulatory policies in the telecommunications sector in each of the regions, citing the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the African Union of Telecommunications (UAT) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In this sense, and complying with the international agreement and the plan determined by Cape Verde, Cabo Verde Broadcast (CVB) – a company created by the Government to complete the implementation of the DTT project in the country and assume the management and operation of the entire infrastructure inherent – presented the plan attached to this Resolution for the effective switch-off of analogue television services in the national territory.

This time, a gradual transition was chosen, with a shutdown schedule per island and per transmitter, including pilot shutdown zones for prior testing.

The dates of disconnection or switch off of the analogue signal specified in the national transition plan, adopted by the Government, will be shared with the sector's stakeholders, namely, operators authorized to carry out television activities in open signal and the Multisectoral Regulatory Agency for the Economy (ARME ).
