In statements to the media, the monitors said they felt unfairly treated with the implementation of the new PCFR and denounced various work situations that they consider precarious.

Preschool teacher Cândida Correia said that, despite being included in the new PCFR, her salary is still lower than expected.

According to the same source, her salary is no more than 19,000 escudos, which corresponds to the national minimum wage.

"For me, a monitor should receive around 37,000 escudos, but we are not even receiving the minimum wage, even with the new PCFR. I'd like to ask the authorities, the municipality and the government if a nurse and a doctor receive the same salary," she questioned.

In this sense, she also said that she has nothing against street sweepers, but said that the monitors are receiving the same salary, and some even less, than this class.

The teacher also stressed the importance of the role played by the monitors in the kindergartens.

"We are mothers, fathers and guardians of the children while they are in kindergarten, so I think the authorities should pay more attention to our class," she added.

Monitor Denise Semedo also said that she had not benefited from the new PCFR, a situation which, she said, was justified by the municipality by the fact that she had a precarious contract that had not yet been regularized.

"I joined in 2023 and so far I continue to work in a precarious way, without conditions, without insurance and without receiving the minimum wage", he denounced, adding that there are other employees in the same situation.

On behalf of the group, he called for the contracts to be regularized, stressing that they perform the same duties as their other colleagues.

For her part, Helena Monteiro, who is also a monitor and shares the same opinion, said that although she has been trained by the Pedagogical Institute (IP), she has not been included in the new PCFR and currently, she said, earns a salary of around 14,000 escudos.

"It's an injustice. I'm educated and I think they should take a closer look at my situation, since I don't even get the minimum wage," she lamented.

According to the monitors, these and other situations explain the general dissatisfaction of the class on the island of Brava, which is calling for an urgent resolution of their cases.

Inforpress tried to hear the reaction of the mayor of Brava on the matter, but he said he would comment later.
