Fogo: Vinho Chã Branco 2024 wins Grand Gold Medal at the Extreme Wines World Championship
The Chã Branco wine, 2024 harvest, was awarded the Grand Gold Medal (Gran Medaglia D'Oro) at the XXXIII edition of the Extreme Wines World Cup, held on September 20th and 21st in Sarre (Italy).

The distinction was confirmed on Wednesday, the 15th, to Adega Cooperativa de Chã das Caldeiras, two weeks after the winery received information that the 2024 harvest red wine had won the gold medal, according to Rosando Monteiro, representative of the institution.
The Grand Gold Medal, the highest prize awarded by the competition organizers, highlights wines that obtain scores above 85/100, surpassing the Gold Medal in prestige and recognition.
In addition to the white wine, the winery's 2024 harvest was awarded twice, with the red wine also receiving a Gold Medal, reinforcing the quality and excellence of local production, which left the winery's managers and producers "very satisfied" with the distinction.
This is the first time that Adega Cooperativa Chã wines have been awarded the Grand Gold Medal.
According to the modalities established by the competition regulations, the wines that obtain the best score, provided they exceed the minimum of 85 points out of 100, are awarded, respectively, with
Grand Gold Medal, Gold Medal and Silver Medal, up to a limit of 30 percent (%) of the wines entered.
This year, the official awards ceremony will take place on November 22nd and 23rd, according to Rosando Monteiro, in a renewed format that includes a conference dedicated to climate change and an open tasting of all the award-winning wines, promoting the exchange of experiences and the appreciation of wines produced in extreme conditions.
The wines from Adega Cooperativa de Chã das Caldeiras have already won their medals: a Grand Gold Medal for Chã Branco, 2024 harvest, and five Gold Medals for the wines “Chã Branco”, 2021 and 2023 harvest, “Chã Tinto”, 2022 and 2024 harvest, and “Chã Passito”, 2023 harvest.
International recognition reaffirms the potential of Chã das Caldeiras wines and the cooperative's dedicated work in unique and challenging conditions at the foot of the Fogo volcano.
