The decision by Samuel Varela and João Paulo Silva, the only two municipal deputies who have been consistently praised for their independent stance and focus on Brava's best interests, was decisive. By aligning themselves with the PAICV on this crucial point, Varela and Silva ensured that the documents were approved, preventing a political impasse that could paralyze the functioning of the town hall and therefore the development of the island.

Member Varela, known for putting "sense of state and Brava first" above any party-political considerations, justified his vote as an act of urgent civic responsibility.

"My role is not to block Brava, but to facilitate and contribute to development," said Varela, speaking to the press after the session. "Although I made my criticisms and proposed changes during the debate, the well-being and functioning of our town hall must prevail. Brava has suffered enough and the people of Brava cannot be penalized by political warfare. The council needs financial instruments and a plan to work towards 2026. My vote reflects this unwavering commitment to Brava First."

His action was seen by many locals as an example of democratic maturity. The non-approval of the budget could have forced the municipality to work with twelfths, drastically limiting investment capacity and the implementation of essential projects for the island, such as water infrastructure, sanitation, and social support.

Despite the approval, Varela made a point of stressing that his vote does not mean a "blank check" to the city council's management. During the discussion of the Plan and Budget, the municipal deputy made several suggestions focused on improving the efficiency of public spending and the need for greater investment in rural areas and the diaspora.

Member of Parliament Samuel Varela will thus continue his attentive and constructive oversight, ensuring that the funds approved are applied transparently and for the real benefit of the Bravense population.
