The management of the former Mayor of Brava Francisco Tavares and the complicit silence of the PAICV on the island of Brava

For years, the PAICV in Brava built a discourse on a foundation of serious accusations during the mandate of former President Francisco Tavares. The PAICV in Brava and its main leaders accused then President Francisco Tavares of influence peddling, corruption, nepotism and embezzlement of public money. The population was led to believe that the previous administration was hiding obscure schemes that were holding back the island's progress.

(...) It was the discourse of change, of "enough is enough", of political moralism. But now, after the fervor of the polls and with the PAICV holding local power, the question is: where is the evidence?

Today, with all the documents from the previous administration in hand, with full access to accounts, contracts and files, nothing has been revealed. No dossier has been presented, no formal complaint has gone to court, no evidence has supported the attacks that, months ago, served as political ammunition. What remains is emptiness. A complicit silence that shouts louder than all the accusations made.

What seemed to be an accusation of serious irregularities may, in the end, have just been an electoral ploy - a dangerous game of manipulating public opinion. If this is the case, we are dealing with an insult to the intelligence and dignity of the people of Brava. The electorate cannot be treated as a mass of maneuvering, fed by occasional speeches which, once the purpose of the vote has been fulfilled, are simply swept under the carpet.

The PAICV in Brava today has a responsibility that cannot be ignored. If there was corruption, let it present proof. If there was embezzlement, let it bring the culprits to justice. But if it was all just electoral rhetoric, then it is the party's obligation to admit to the people that it manipulated and deceived them. Silence cannot be the answer - because silence, in this case, is complicity.

Politics made up of empty accusations destroys people's trust in institutions and exacerbates disbelief in the democratic system. The people of Brava deserve clear answers, not electoral slogans that evaporate the day after the elections.

The people of Brava have the right to ask: where are the complaints, the processes, the evidence? Where is the political seriousness? The PAICV's silence isn't just uncomfortable - it's revealing. And if it is not broken with the truth, it will go down in history as an act of electoral manipulation, where the thirst for power spoke louder than a commitment to the truth.
