The national coach, Bubista, expressed his desire today in the United States for Cape Verde to play the group stage of the 2026 World Cup on North American soil, to allow the large Cape Verdean Diaspora to support the team closely.
Present in Washington D.C. to follow the draw, Bubista said that it would be "very special" to play the games in the USA, stressing that the presence of the Diaspora could make a difference.
"The only thing I want is for Cape Verde to be able to play their games in the USA, because we'll give our Diaspora the opportunity to be close by and support us," said the coach.
Bubista assured that, regardless of which group the draw dictates, Cape Verde is prepared to face any opponent. "We're here on our own merits and we want to compete, knowing that there are no easy games at the World Cup. We respect all the teams, but we're going to participate with humility, confidence, work capacity and organization," he said.
The draw will take place in Washington D.C., at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts, at 16h (Cape Verde time).
On the eve of the draw, the Cape Verdean delegation also attended an official meeting promoted by FIFA, which brought together representatives of the participating teams.
