Nelson Colin Miranda, manager of a hotel in Fajã d'Água, pointed out that transportation, whose situation he considers "quite complicated", has greatly conditioned the work of tour operators.

According to the same source, maritime transportation has currently become irregular and, as a result, the island has stopped receiving tourists and hotels are closing their doors due to a lack of customers.

"We're approaching the month of June, which is the high season in this municipality, due to the celebration of the town's festivities and, normally, all the inns and hotels are usually full, however, this year after there was the problem with the transport, customers began to cancel their bookings," he explained.

In view of the situation, he said that the hotels on the Brava have practically closed their doors and the operators have commitments to make, namely staff salaries and payments to suppliers.

"If there are no boats or other solutions, it's a worrying situation for those of us who operate in this area and that's why we're calling on the competent authorities to take some measures, especially in this sector," he said.

For his part, Paulo Burgo, the owner of a guest house in Nova Sintra, who was also concerned about the tourism situation on the Brava, pointed out that customers who had bookings at his establishment are giving up because they don't have confidence in maritime transport.

According to the operator, some customers still have reservations made, but are unsure if they will be able to travel to Brava.

In addition to the lack of maritime transportation, Paulo Burgo pointed out that the water problem has also affected the whole island and ended by calling for the government to intervene as soon as possible to put an end to the constraints that Brava has suffered.
