Brava: MpD rejects PAICV accusations and considers government visit "productive and historic"

At a press conference, the president of the MpD's Concelhia Political Commission, Samuel Varela, said that the accusations are "totally false and without any foundation", stressing that the Bravense population welcomed the government's visit with satisfaction and positive expectations.

According to the MpD leader, this is an unprecedented moment for the island, since, for the first time, Brava has simultaneously received the Prime Minister and several members of the Government, in a "clear sign of commitment" to local development.

Samuel Varela stressed that the visit resulted in concrete progress, with the signing of various protocols and contracts between the government and the local authority, covering structuring projects in different areas, namely urban redevelopment, basic sanitation, social housing, care for young children and the elderly, redevelopment of the municipal auditorium, as well as four projects linked to the fisheries sector.

The political leader also stressed that work is underway that is considered fundamental for the island, such as the seawater desalination plant, which is nearing completion and is due to start operating next March, guaranteeing quality drinking water for the population.

Another project mentioned was the alternative road linking Fajã d'Água to Palhal, which currently allows access to the town of Portete by road, as well as the photovoltaic park being built in the town of Favatal, initiatives which, according to Samuel Varela, will have a direct impact on improving the quality of life of the people of Brava.

The president of the MpD Concelhia Political Commission also accused the PAICV of disrespecting local economic operators and recent private investments, such as the inauguration of an aggregate production unit for civil construction, made possible with fiscal and financial incentives from the government.

For Samuel Varela, it is legitimate for the government to include Brava on its work agenda, as the island is an integral part of the national territory, considering the government visit as a gesture of "positive discrimination" in favor of the island's development.

The leader concluded by reaffirming that the results of the government visit will have a direct impact on the lives of Bravenses, contrary to the narrative presented by the PAICV.
