David Sanches, who was speaking to journalists, said that both during the rainy season and up until the recent rain, the teams had stepped up their monitoring of water reservoirs and surveillance in various locations.

According to the official, immediately after the recent rains, the teams went back to the field to check deposits and ensure that there were no conditions conducive to the proliferation of mosquitoes.

David Sanches also pointed out that the most effective method for combating the vectors continues to be the use of Gambusia fish, which remain in the reservoirs and eliminate the larvae continuously, although medicines are also useful, they need to be reapplied every three months, unlike the fish, which maintain control permanently.

"We have an awareness team always on the ground, instructing people on the correct way to conserve water and fight vectors. At the same time, another team is dedicated to the direct control of mosquito outbreaks, visiting homes, agricultural reservoirs and water points used by shepherds for their animals," he said.

Sanches also stressed that the collaboration of the population had been decisive, doing their part well.

In this sense, he admitted that the group alone does not have the full power to control and combat the vectors without the support of the population.

Despite the challenges, the technician believes that the efforts are paying off, noting that more and more residents are correctly following the instructions on water conservation and vector prevention.

With the result of this joint work, Sanches confirmed that, so far, there have been no outbreaks of mosquito-borne diseases on Brava this year, a positive sign of the impact of the surveillance and awareness-raising actions carried out on the island.
