Producers and breeders from Brava Island visited agricultural communities today to learn about and evaluate the various projects underway and concluded that the municipality needs more support from the Government.

At the end of the exchange, in statements to the media, producer José Andrade expressed his satisfaction with the participation of several colleagues in the meeting to exchange ideas.

In addition to exchanging ideas, the meeting also served as an opportunity for participants to express their concerns and ask what purpose the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) delegation has on the island.

“In my case, I can say that this delegation is not seen on the ground, because in the Sorno area, where I have my plantation, which is one of the largest in the municipality, it has been more than two years since we received a visit from any technician, not even the delegate, to assess the situation we find ourselves in, to also find out what support we need, among other concerns”, he stressed.

In this situation, he highlighted that they invited the delegate to participate in the activity, with the aim of making him aware of the real concerns of this sector, also stressing that in the municipality the work that the MAA has been doing is flawed and needs to be guided.

“Brava is stuck in time and penalized in several sectors, since the Government has not shown concern for the island”, he criticized.

In turn, farmer José Gomes highlighted that a reunion of this nature is like recharging the battery, considering that agriculture on the island is currently in a phase of “stress”, whereas there have been better times.

In this sense, the same source stressed that nothing is lost yet, taking into account that with “good will” it is possible to reverse the situation.

“Today, at this meeting, we visited different communities and exchanged ideas, as we were in the Fontainha area, where we witnessed an interesting experience with forage production and the valorization of dryland production. We also saw a modernized form of animal husbandry in the corral, among other innovations,” he said.

Gomes reported, however, that farmers were concerned about pests, especially the invasion of monkeys and wild chickens, which have multiplied year after year.

But the farmer believes that, with the support of the City Council and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, solutions to these problems can be found.
