António Gomes, known as Totche, a Bravense businessman living in the United States, has died

António Gomes began his business career at a very young age, in the town of Mato, on the island of Brava, Cape Verde. From an early age, he showed an entrepreneurial spirit, dedication to work and a practical vision for business, characteristics that have accompanied him throughout his life. In Brava, Totche is remembered as a simple, hard-working and respected man, who was able to win the trust of the community by example and seriousness.

Like many Bravenses, António Gomes emigrated in search of better opportunities. Once in the United States, he settled in Pawtucket, where he made a name for himself as a successful businessman. He was the owner of establishments that were well known in the community, namely Lima Doce Store and Flor Di Brava, places that, in addition to their commercial activity, were true meeting points for the Bravense and Cape Verdean diaspora in general.

In his businesses, Totche didn't just sell products; he offered hospitality, friendly conversation and a family atmosphere. Many of his countrymen remember him as someone who was always available to help, advise and support those who had recently arrived in the United States or were going through difficult times. For many, his store was a piece of Brava on American soil.

Despite living abroad, António Gomes never lost his connection to the island of Brava. He kept the traditions, culture and pride in his origins alive, following the social life of the island closely and supporting family members and acquaintances back home as much as he could.

Totche's death represented a significant loss for the Bravense community, both on the island and in the diaspora. We are left with the memory of a hard-working, enterprising, humble man, deeply attached to his roots, whose life will continue to serve as an example to new generations.

To the bereaved family, friends and the Bravense community, Bravanews sends its most heartfelt condolences, wishing them comfort in this time of sorrow. May António Gomes, our Totche, rest in peace.
