Prime Minister begins official visit to Fogo with signing of several agreements and focus on Fogo-Brava mobility
Nova Sintra City, December 19, 2025 (Bravanews) - The Prime Minister of Cape Verde, José Ulisses Correia e Silva, today began an official visit to the island of Fogo, covering the island's three municipalities, in a trip marked by institutional dialogue, the definition of priorities and a commitment to concrete solutions for the region's main challenges.
According to the press release issued by the Head of Government, the visit was carefully organized in conjunction with the Mayors, in a cooperation exercise that enabled problems to be identified, administrative and financial blockages to be overcome and pending projects to be followed up, especially with regard to the funding mechanisms for the Environment Fund and the Tourism Fund.
During the visit, the government signed between 10 and 12 protocols and program contracts, with a direct impact on the lives of the population. Among the highlights is the agreement to set up a Professional Training School in Hospitality and Tourism, an infrastructure considered strategic for training young people, strengthening the tourism sector and promoting local employment.
The investment package also includes the rehabilitation of infrastructures, interventions in the areas of water and sanitation, improvements in mobility, as well as urban regeneration projects, with the aim of increasing the quality of life and attractiveness of the island.
In the transport sector, the Prime Minister announced measures considered structural for the Fogo-Brava region. These include the harmonization of port taxes, the entry into operation of the ship Praia d'Aguada on the Praia-Fogo-Brava route and the acquisition of a boat dedicated exclusively to the maritime connection between Fogo and Brava. According to the government, these decisions will significantly improve the mobility of people and goods, boost inter-island tourism and facilitate logistical supplies.
Another important point of the visit was the confirmation of the completion of the modernization works at the São Filipe aerodrome. The infrastructure will now have runway lighting, allowing for greater operability, and an improved road link, carried out by the City Council. The official inauguration is scheduled for January.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Executive's commitment to strengthening the attractiveness of the Fogo region, creating opportunities for training, entrepreneurship and employment, and ensuring that young people can build their future on the islands.
"The path is paved with cooperation, shared solutions and commitment to real results," stressed the Head of Government, leaving the assurance that this visit is not just about announcements, but concrete actions with a lasting impact on regional development.
