The eternal connection to Raiz, Armando Madeira, the son of Brava who always finds peace when he returns to his homeland, Djabraba

Weymouth, November 7, 2025 (Bravanews) - The island of Brava, the smallest of Cape Verde's leeward islands, is home to stories of emigration and unbreakable bonds. One of these stories is that of Armando Madeira, a son of Brava who, despite having emigrated early to the United States of America, carries his island in his heart with remarkable devotion.

Armando Madeira, also known for his work in music production with Scuta Music (promoting talents from Brava, such as the CD "Brava Tem Talento"), personifies the soul of the Cape Verdean diaspora: the body may be gone, but the spirit and memory remain firmly anchored in the homeland.

In an exclusive conversation with Bravanews, the emigrant shared his deepest emotions about visiting his island. "When I visit the island of Brava, I feel an inner peace and a connection with my roots that I can't find anywhere else," revealed Armando Madeira.

The emigration to the United States, common to so many Bravenses in search of better opportunities, shaped Armando Madeira's professional and personal life. However, this physical distance only intensified his love for Brava. His return trips, far from being mere vacations, are true emotional pilgrimages.

"Brava is my safe haven, the place where my story began. Seeing Mount Fontainhas, walking the streets of Nova Sintra, feeling the breeze from Furna, enjoying the charms and nooks of Faja D'Agua, all this transports me to the essence of who I am," she told Bravanews.

This sentiment echoes the experience of thousands of Cape Verdeans around the world who, with their remittances and their presence, keep the flame of identity burning on the islands.
