Fajã D'Água road protection wall falls to pieces and residents ask authorities for attention
Cidade de Nova Sintra, December 17, 2025 (Bravanews) - The protective wall of the road in Fajã D'Água, on the island of Brava, is in an advanced state of disrepair, with several parts already falling apart, causing concern among residents and frequent users of the road.
According to reports from the local population, the situation has been going on for several months and has worsened over time, especially after periods of rain and higher humidity, and with the action of the sea accelerating the wear and tear of the structure. At some points, blocks of stone and concrete have already come loose, leaving the road more exposed and increasing the risk of accidents, especially for vehicles and pedestrians.
The residents warn that the wall plays a fundamental role in the safety of the road and the houses on the coast, serving as containment and protection in an area considered sensitive due to its rugged terrain. "Any carelessness can result in a serious accident. All it takes is for a car to veer slightly off the road for the worst to happen," said one resident, who requested anonymity.
The Fajã D'Água road is widely used not only by local residents, but also by farmers, fishermen and visitors, and is an important route for mobility in that part of the island. For the population, the degradation of the wall represents a constant threat, especially at night or on foggy days, which are common on Brava.
In view of the situation, the residents are calling on the competent authorities, namely the Brava City Council, Estrada de Cabo Verde and the services responsible for road infrastructure, to carry out an urgent inspection and proceed with rehabilitation work before the situation worsens any further.
"Intervention now can avoid greater costs in the future and, above all, save lives," stress the residents, who hope that the warning will be heeded and that concrete measures will be taken as soon as possible.
