Football/World Cup'2026: FIFA fines FCF CHF 5,000 for incidents in Cameroon match
FIFA, through its Disciplinary Committee, today sanctioned the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF) with a fine of 5,000 Swiss francs for incidents after the Cape Verde 1-0 Cameroon match on September 9.

At the end of the match, held at the Estadio Nacional, in the eighth round of Group D of African qualification for the 2026 World Cup, Cape Verdean fans invaded the pitch to celebrate the victory with the players, a situation that led to disciplinary punishment.
However, in a press release, the federation calls on fans and the general public to behave correctly and strictly comply with the rules of order and safety in the match against Eswatini to be played at the National Stadium on October 13.
Before that, on October 8, Cape Verde faces Libya in Tripoli, and it is certain that a win for the "Blue Sharks", or a draw if Cameroon draws or loses against Angola, will mean that Cape Verde will qualify for a World Cup for the first time.
With two days left to play in the group stage, Cape Verde lead Group D with 19 points, followed by Cameroon with 15, Libya 14, Angola 10, Mauritius 08 and Eswatini, 02 points.
According to FIFA regulations, the winners of each of the nine African groups will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the four best runners-up will play in a qualifying tournament for the FIFA World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup will be played in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
