The island of Brava can never be forgotten - recalls Nereida Lobo
Nova Sintra City, November 15, 2025 (Bravanews) - The island of Brava, home of Eugénio Tavares, has once again demanded attention and respect in an emotional appeal that is echoing on social media and among the diaspora. Nereida Lobo, from Brava, signed a message with pride and deep feeling, reminding the country that Cape Verde's smallest inhabited island continues to face structural challenges that hinder its development.
"Brava can never be forgotten," writes Nereida, reinforcing the cultural and historical symbolism of this piece of land where poetry and morna were born to the world. For her and for many, the island that sings, that feels and that holds the Cape Verdean soul deserves more than words: it deserves concrete actions.
In the text, the author points out that, as early as 2025, transportation and accessibility problems persist, limiting economic growth, opportunities and the quality of life of Bravense families. The lack of reliable connections remains the main obstacle, forcing many to leave and making it difficult for others to return. "It's not a request for a favor. It's not a criticism. It's a wake-up call," stresses Nereida.
Evoking Eugénio Tavares' famous phrase, "Si ka badu, ka ta biradu", the message reinforces the idea that without opportunities and decent conditions for mobility, the population is pushed away from their land - and many are unable to return.
The outburst, signed by a "proud Bravense", rekindles an old debate: the need for effective public policies and consistent investment to guarantee the island's full integration into the country. Brava, with its cultural, tourist and human potential, is still waiting for solutions that will allow it to flourish and occupy the place it deserves on the national scene.
Meanwhile, Eugénio Tavares' voice lives on - now echoed by new Bravenses who, like Nereida Lobo, refuse to let the island be silenced and forgotten.
